Grizzlies Endure Jazz Comeback, Win 126-124
SALT LAKE CITY -- The Grizzlies defeated the Utah Jazz 126-124 tonight in the Delta Center, despite a 17-point turnaround turnaround by the Jazz.
Santi Aldama had a 27 point outing for the Grizzlies, including two contested layups with under 4 minutes remaining in the game.
The contest was filled with fouls, with the Jazz going 32-45 from the line, and the Grizzlies going 23-32. Lauri Markkanen, who had the game high 35 points, had 13 from the stripe.
Aldama hit a three with 4:10 left in the second quarter that gave the Grizzlies their largest lead of the game, 54-37, but the Jazz were able to comeback via Grizzlies foul struggles, and winning on the glass.
Rookie Zach Edey struggled in his debut, as he fouled out with 9:15 remaining in the fourth quarter. Edey amassed 5 points and five rebounds, and struggled from the charity stripe, going 1-5.
This is the Grizzlies first away win against the Jazz since 2021, breaking a four-game skid.
Walker Kessler had the game high 14 rebounds, along with 16 points. Morant also had a double-double with 22 points and 10 assists.
With under 6 seconds, Markannen made a three to cut the lead to 2, but the Jazz failed to foul the Grizzlies on the inbound pass as they dribbled out the clock.
This game was one of three games in four days the Grizzlies will play to start their season, as they take on the Rockets at 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Toyota Center in Houston.
